How To Make/Extract Avocado Oil

Salam & hi to all,

Today, i felt so happy for producing my very own avocado oil YEAY!!

Last month, i got 129 avocados which were 70% bad and 30% still can be eaten, ate 2 or 3 per day, and due to avocado doesnt last long,  they rot and couldnt be eaten anymore. to throw away almost 100 rotten avocado just like that? no way!

i browsed the net searching for tips how to extract avocado oil. searched in youtube, and google, my efforts were in vain. i have to use common sense how to do it. this is how i did it.

you are going to need :-

for the purpose of sharing, i just used approximately  2kg of bad avocado
1 liter coconut cream (optional, you can omit it if you want 100% avocado oil extract)

a piece of cloth and a bowl
250gram pure coconut oil, (this is also optional, you can also omit this)
(any brand, i bought this one from my Myanmar client)
use few table spoon of baby oil (if you cant stand the smell of cooked avocado,
this is optional, you can omit this if you like)

THE STEPS
pour the coconut cream and mix it with the avocado in a blender  machine

until really smooth
you can add more or if its too thick, you can add some tap water

pour everything in a suitable sized pot, cook  in slow fire
. stir every 5 minutes. you can add the pure coconut oil and the baby oil if you like
(they are just optional)
its boiling... and look at the extracted avocado oil surfaced near the bubbles,
cook until it become a bit dried up..you will notice that the mixture expels water due to heat from the fire
cook and keep on stirring until the color become dark as shown above.
see the differencebetween a half cooked avocado (which i want to use as a hair/face mask)
and a well cooked avocado in the red tray

now to strain the mixture to get the oil.....put the cloth on top of the bowl
put the well cooked avocado on it

i love this part, especially when i see the oil drips into the bowl. squeeze hard the get the most out of it
pour the luxurious avocado oil in a clean dry bottle

proud to present, a bottle of homemade avocado oil
the waste. i didnt throw it, and
guess what? it can be used to wash the dishes !

avocado oil is reported to be better than olive oil for its nutrient content. i find that avocado is more than just better.

anyway, for the above home made avocado oil, the content of avocado oil is 85% i can say, and the rest of it is the mixture of the coconut oil and the baby oil. even though mine is only 85%, i believe the avocado dominates the whole oil mixture as the outcome isnt really greasy. maybe the coconut nucliec acid changes with heat or when mixed with the dominant ingredient, they might 'convert and transform' their identity? i dont know, i didnt score chemistry in school haha...

you can omit all except the avocado is you want 100% avocado oil output.

for the baby oil, it helps to give some fragrance to the oil.  it was my daughter's request actually as she wants to use it as well, and she hates bad smelling oil ;p..

i like the original smell, just love the originality and authenticity of avocado oil...

lets be grateful to Allah SWT for this magnificent creation, peace :)

  3. Hello and thank you very much for your post. I am so grateful. Could you tell me what type of cloth did you use the material? I don't know which cloth to use.

  4. Hi there mr/miss anonymous, you can use a piece of clean cotton cloth :) good luck!

    1. it needs to be a mesh cloth or cheesecloth something with tiny holes, so the oil can drain out. If you use a cotton cloth, it will just spread and soak up onto the whole cloth and not go through into the bowl.

  9. Maryam this is great, I also used the same method and extracted a little less oil than you did. I used Hass and Fuerte varieties, but didnt add coconut oil was that the reason for low oil yield?

    1. hi there NC7, after squeezing out the avo oil, i used the waste to wash my greasy plates and pan. i was just making an experiment on how not to waste (recycle) the waste product. what i did was, put some on a dirty plate, rubbed it on the plate and wash. help to green the earth by reducing the use of chemicals from the detergent :)

    1. hi, i think the one that you have read is another posting on how to produce pure avo without any addition of any other substance. the second method is better and the output is pure and cold pressed :)

anyway, this is the link you read earlier, i guess. http://maryamchin.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-to-produce-cold-pressed-avocado-oil.html

When you say slow-fire, can I put it in a pot on the stove on low-heat? And roughly how long do I cook it for?

    1. Hi Lucy, i would recommend you to check on the other post on how to produce 'cold pressed' avocado, it involves no heat from fire at all! anyway, if you prefer the cooked way of getting the oil, the whole process would take not less than 2 hours..good luck :)

  17. My thesis' title is "Avocado oil as an anti-wrinkle cream", which is my idea and my concept, and it has been approved by my teacher. I was assigned by our group leader to do our research methodology. My question is, can I use humans to test my product and if not, what animal is the most appropriate for our thesis. I would be very glad if you will reply as soon as possible. Thank you very much! God bless and more power!

    1. Hi there Jess Tamani, i have made myself as 'the guinea pig' to test the home made avo oil. the cold pressed (pls refer to my post on this) is much more lighter and less greasy compared to the oil derived from the cooking process. some types of avo produce better amount of oil and some, contain more water and lesser oil. well, there are 1001 facts on this chapter. answering to ur question, i dont think testing to any animal would be practical as, avo oil is edible. the problem, what kind of other inedible chemical element that is to be added to make it as skin lotion? if the oil is used as it is, i dont think there is any side effect, provided that it isnt 'over used'. one important thing, our eyes can get irritation if avo oil gets into it, but still the cold pressed avo oil is good to moisture the skin surround the eyes. in my personal opinion, avo oil works better if it is mixed with olive oil at portion 2:1 avo oil and olive oil respectively. good luck :)

    2. thank you very much for the response. How long should I cook my avocado so that I can get the right color. thanks!

    3. It depends on d color u wish to have. Darker color indicates carbon existence from d cooking process. D uncooked method produces lighter n greener avo oil. Pls check my other post on cold pressed avo oil :)

    1. hi there, it has been many many months now and they are still ok. i think the big industries in producing avo oil set the expiry date for its quality control, anything over a year is considered bad. as for mine, i produce it for my own use for the sake of saving the semi bad avo from being disposed, so why not process it for its oil? its hard to find avo oil in most super/hyper market in malaysia and if there is, the price could be expensive. to be honest, i dont have the exact info on how long it last but if you put it in dark bottle, it may last long. i hope my answer helps :)

  21. thank you, thank you!! this post is the best, i have started on the paleo diet and have noticed my skin drying out more then usual when i use just coconut oil, i have seen on youtube how people have made face mask and moisturizers using both coconut oil and raw avocado, so i wanted to try making it as well...my oil turned out with a burnt smell, was it meant to? any way, i still got 25 grams of oil in my jar, (i used both avo and coconut oil and cream)..i took some of the uncooked mix from the blender and kept it aside for a face mask, the rest i cooked to get the oil, and the cooked pulp after straining i have kept in another jar and i use it as a body scrub (put a bit of pulp in a wash cloth and rub all over your body - i thought if it can clean the dishes it can clean my body lol) and OMG! my skin was so soft in the shower, then once dried i used the oil on my face as a moisturizer, my skin looks and feels 100 times better, its so hydrated now then when i just use coconut oil and there's no flaking skin or pimple break outs...I LOVE IT!! your the best...i will try the cold pressed way soon...

  27. Assalamualaikum.Very good info. May Allah bless u.. Really interesting post. In my mind, I think I can modified your recipe. Blend avocado until really smooth, put into pot. Let it for 8 hours. After that will appear 3 layer I guess, then put into freeze for 6 hour(till hard). Take out the water at the bottom. Then just put it into a room temperature until appear some oil. This just in my mind.. I'll do experiment for this.then, taddaa. Avocado oil. This is coldpressing concept. Soon will try

  29. Avocados have different forms, with ' Hass ' and ' Fuerte ' among them. Hass is grown primarily in New Zealand, offering high yield and low postharvest disorders. There are different types of avocados ranging in form, from pear-shaped to round or from green to black colored avocado; however, the Hass avocado is a highly common variety. Avocado fruit is grown either for domestic use or export purposes, for the fresh fruit market. Avocado oil is the natural oil derived from the avocado pulp. Avocado is rich in protein, potassium, texture, and it is pleasant in taste. As per Renub Research Analysis, Global Avocado Oil Market will be US$ 787.6 Million by 2026.
